Best Way To Clean Your Face

The secret to beautiful and flawless makeup is clean skin. Everybody knows how to wash their face, but doing it properly is another thing. Yes, there's an art to mastering the perfect cleanse.

Keep it warm.

Yes, it has to be warm. Temperature matters. Hot or cold water can dry the skin.

Clean your neck and hairline.

When cleaning your face, you have to clean your neck and hairline too. Since people tend to not rinse the edges of the face properly, these neglected areas tend to show breakouts.

Think in circles.

Spend time applying the cleanser in circular motions outward toward the hairline in order to stimulate the lymphatic system. Circular motions over both eyes will also break up the makeup faster and de-puff the eyes after a long day.

7 Makeup Bag Essentials Every Girl Should Own

A basic makeup kit will never leave your bag. It can take you from school to party nights or even overnighters. It doesn't have to be a suitcase. All you need is to know what you can wear daily and how much time you have to apply these products.

A product that has more than one function doesn't only save space, but time when it comes to applying make up. Consider these items:

http://www.dexnewyork.com/Mineral_Tinted_Hydrator_s/76.htm

  1. The DEX New York Mineral Hydrator is a a primer, sunscreen, skincare treatment, moisturizer and foundation in one tube. It is perfect for any weather or any occasion. All you need is a small amount to create a water-resistant veil of natural looking coverage.
  2. The Mineral Retouch Concealer is applied to hide blemishes, sores, eye bags, and other facial imperfections. Mineral Retouch has a very lightweight, true skin-like feel, which is an unfamiliar characteristic for most full coverage cosmetic products. DEX Mineral Retouch is a cream-like, mineral-based foundation that offers medium to heavy coverage.
  3. Any makeup kit should always have a blush. After all, vibrant cheeks suggest a healthy and happy face.
  4. An eyeliner is used on the edges of your eyelids closest to your eyes and just below the eyes. It can make your eyes wider or smaller, depending  on how you apply it.
  5. Another must-have is a a creamy luxurious lipstick. DEX New York lipsticks protect and condition lips with a memorable moist look and feel.
  6. Powders can set your foundation and prevent it from wearing off. A Mineral Finishing Powder over foundation to enhance a complexion color and create a natural appearance.
  7. Lastly, make up application tools are essential for creating flawless makeup. Plus using a professional makeup brush will also keep your hands off your face before they can leave behind a layer of dirt, oil and bacteria that can cause breakouts.

Foundation Mistakes to Avoid

Any woman who wears makeup has made these mistakes at least once: buying the wrong shade, not blending well, keeping makeup long after you're supposed to and putting on more than you should.

We at DEX New York have compiled a list of common mistakes and what you can do to fix them.

Applying foundation on your neck.

Normally, our necks isn't the place for makeup. Foundation placed on your neck will eventually get on your everyday work clothes and that's hard to clean. It also makes you stop to think, if you're feel that you have to put foundation on your neck because you're using the same color on your face, aren't you using the wrong shade? If your neck has a distinctly different color, then shouldn't you be looking for a shade that matches your neck? Another issue to consider is that for some, the neck could be a shade lighter or darker than the shade for your face.

The wrong shade.

When testing out a color, always check the results in natural light. Keep it neutral. A neutral-tone foundation will soften the redness rather than make it look worse. Always remember, the shade should enhance your skin tone, not exaggerate or mask it.

Too much foundation.

After watching youtube half a dozen times on how to put foundation (do contouring, camouflaging etc), it can be very tempting to overdo it. Why are you using foundation? Are you trying to conceal bad skin (have you tried changing your skin-care routine)? A foundation's job is to enhance beautiful skin, rather than cover its blemishes. If your skin is clear and glowing, it is best to apply less in order to look more natural. Better yet - try something light, like the Mineral Hydrator.

Blend, blend, blend!

With the right tools (a sponge or foundation brush) you can get smooth results in minutes. Pay extra attention to the hairline, jaw line, around your nostrils, the upper lip, and around the eyes (especially if you have wrinkles). It also helps to use a magnifying mirror to check for mistakes. Magnifying mirrors can be scary (Who wants to see their pores that big?), but they can be a huge help to make sure your foundation looks smooth and everything else about your makeup is perfectly blended.

What Are The Causes And Risk Factors Of Rosacea?

Until now, nobody knows the cause of rosacea. It however, common in people who flush easily.

There are commonly known factors that can trigger an inflammation. These are:
  1. Emotional factors (stress, fear, anxiety, embarrassment, etc.) may trigger blushing and aggravate rosacea
  2. Changes in weather (strong winds or a change in the humidity)
  3. Sun exposure and sun-damaged skin is generally associated with rosacea.
  4. Physical activity such as exercise, alcohol consumption, and spicy food are other well-known triggers that may aggravate rosacea.

Rosacea risk factors include fair skin, English, Irish or Scottish heredity, easy blushing, and having other family members with rosacea (called "positive family history"). Additional risk factors include female gender, menopause, and being 30-50 years of age.

Women with rosacea are faced not only with battling this skin condition but with the struggle to find the best makeup to cover redness. As a reminder, always read the makeup ingredients label. Opt for makeup that is fragrance free, non-comedogenic and should not contains alcohol and certain oils (menthol, peppermint, witch hazel, clove oil, eucalyptus oil), glycol acid and salicylic acid.

Is Rosacea Like Acne?

Although your skin can have both rosacea and acne, they are very different. You cannot outgrow acne. Rosacea consists of small red bumps compared to acne which can also have blackheads or whiteheads.

Unfortunately Rosacea occurs in both sexes and can happen at any age. It tends to be more frequent in women but more severe in men. It is very uncommon in children, and it is less frequent dark skin.

When can you cover your tattoo?

Keep in mind that you shouldn't attempt to cover a tattoo with makeup unless it's fully healed, otherwise you could ruin the ink or develop an infection. Tattoos can take as long as 45 days to heal completely.

When #Beauty Calls, we listen!

As a friend and fan of DEX, Sonja Morgan is always fun to work with and we were up to the challenge to transform her from Upper East Side Socialite to a vampy burlesque siren. Upon her special request, we traveled out to East Hampton late last summer.

I glamorized Miss Morgan with a sultry smoky eye using a Tompkins Square soft brown #eyeshadow in the crease, Rockefeller gold shimmer on the lid, a hint of shady Wall Street onyx in the outer crease i.e v-contour, and a pair of feathered wing tip lush lashes to give her that sexy caburlesque appeal. For skin we kept it flawless contoured and illuminated with our Mineral Tinted Hydrator, so her true beauty is seen as relevant and timeless. And for her lips we rounded it off with our Park Avenue Princess Pink Lip Gloss; giving Miss Morgan more of a 1920's modern day feeling.

You too, can get the look @ DEX New York

What are you watching tonight?

Imagine if you will......a not so long ago time in a land not too-too far from the isle of Manhattan, a warm summer's afternoon in the middle of the woods on a sunny day somewhere in East Hampton as one man, a dream and his makeup team conquered the Hamptons most outrageous personality one lash at a time....

It's that TIME OF YEAR to reminisce about the fun times that were had making up the (fabulous)Ms. Sonja Morgan for her "Caburlesque" performance last summer in the Hamptons...looking like a glamourpuss courtesy of DEX New York at the patient (!!!) hands of Mr. Dex Phillip and his team of magical elves.

Airs tonight, Tuesday at 9pm EST.

How can I find a wedding makeup artist who won't overdo my wedding makeup?

The last thing you need is to look plastic or stuck with dramatic eye makeup that would be immortalized in your photos.

Here are some tips to making sure you get the right person to do the job.

1. Research.
  • Check them out on facebook.
  • Click through your feed to see whose makeup you truly love then send out a message on who did it.
  • Ask around and use your own network - that is friends and family.

2. Try them out first.
  • A good makeup artist will let you try out their services. The makeup artist should be able to follow your directions, listen to you and be able to do the job well.
  • Book early. Like the dress, the photographer, the invites and venue, your makeup is important too. Don't do this at the last minute.
  • Expect to buy the lip color from the makeup artist for touch ups —you shouldn’t need to reapply anything else.

 3. Know what you want.
A seasoned makeup artist can give you that flattering look - however if you speak up during the trial, you can give them an idea on how you want it. From the wedding's theme, color you don't like, the kind of dress you will wear, down to the shoes. Bring pictures or show him pins of the style you hope to get.

Your makeup is as important as your dress. It lives on in the memories and photos taken of that special event. Make it special.
